Veteran paceman Andy Caddick has been awarded a testimonial by Somerset in 2009.

The 40-year-old made his debut for the county back in 1991 and played in 62 Tests and 54 one-day internationals for England.

Caddick first appeared for the county's 2nd XI in 1989, taking 8-46 against Surrey at the Oval, and enjoyed a benefit year in 1999.

A testimonial has been awarded to him in recognition of 20 seasons at the County Ground.

He said: "It's a real honour to be awarded a testimonial by the club and my focus of attention now it to make sure that I am fully fit and ready to go for the new season and hopefully help the club to win the County Championship for the first time ever.

"My winter training is going right to schedule and after two months off, which is what I have always done, I have started back now and will begin bowling again early in the new year.

"My body is doing well and I am feeling very strong, so I feel pretty good about things."

Somerset chief executive Richard Gould said: "Caddy is still going strong and is one of our leading bowlers 10 years after his benefit back in 1999.

"He has been a wonderful servant to the club and achieved a great deal for Somerset, in addition to which he has been a wonderful example to all of the young cricketers who have grown up sharing a dressing room with him."
