Boss Britton satisfied with 'a point gained'
City were hardly in the game as an attacking force but, thanks to strong defending and some fine saves from keeper Ryan Robinson, managed to earn a goalless draw.
"I think on the day it's a point gained," said City boss Britton.
"We were not at our best but it was really nice that we were dogged, determined and got something out of the game. It was like two or three years ago where we used to fight out a result, everyone put their body on the line.
"It was important not to lose. We remain three points behind Dover but with a better goal difference and a game in hand, so it is all to play for.
"We are well in there and have a great chance of reaching the top five but from time to time there will be performances like this.
"I guess for us, more than anything else, we don't have the options to change things offensively and do something different. We are limited with the squad we have and it would have been nice to do what they did today and bring on three attacking players.
"I'd like to think there will be more players coming in but the chairman and the board are probably fed up of me because I am always asking.
"But that's the only way we can improve. I would desperately like to bring two more in and get one out at the moment but the board can only give me what they have got.
"They have decided they are not going to put themselves in the red to sign players and everyone knows what happens when you do that, you just have to look at Lewes and Weymouth.
"But as long as we can keep the same budget, we can go on chipping away one player at a time. I am happy to do that."
Britton only had one attacking option on the bench but was pleased with Stuart Douglas's contribution when he came on for the final 10 minutes, saying he thought the striker should have had a penalty when he was challenged by Dover defender Ollie Schulz.
"We have really criticised Stuart of late for not doing enough but I thought he did really quite well today," said the boss.
"We felt their lad had actually touched Stuart when he went past him and it was in the box. Their bench was shouting out that Stuart should be booked for diving but we thought he touched him.
"That's how it goes, though. They thought there was a handball on the line in the first half [when Schulz's header was cleared] so some go for you, some go against you."
Britton also felt that visiting striker Shaun Welford should have been sent off before half-time after appearing to elbow Gethin Jones, just moments after being booked for a foul on the same player.
"It was right in front of us, he clearly raised his forearm and hit Gethin with it," Britton claimed. "That was unreasonable and could have been a straight red on another day but the ref just let it go."
