This is Bath

On a sweltering summer day the last thing on your mind would be wrapping Christmas presents.

But number crunching celebrity Carol Vorderman defied the good weather in Bath today to do just that.

The former Countdown star was in the city to film one of a series of segments for the BBC's One Show which is likely to be broadcast in October.

Ms Vorderman was at the December 25th shop on Cheap Street to meet Sara Santos, a woman who has created a formula for the best way to make the most out of wrapping paper.

The 48-year-old star's birthday is on Christmas Eve but even she admitted it was a bit ironic to be wrapping presents in the middle of summer.

She said: "I'm a big Christmas person but I haven't started my Christmas shopping yet.

"I don't get to come to Bath as often as I would like but it is so wonderful.

"I want to get in the spa here but I've never had a moment yet.

"I usually get to Bath about once every quarter."

She was filming one of five shows in a set called The Maths of Life which will also take a mathematical look at everyday activities such as parking and moving furniture.

December 25th owner Graham Tomkiss has run the shop for almost 20 years and said in the summer months he relies on tourists.

He said: "Our season runs throughout the year.

"We buy things that are more unusual because we don't need to sell out by Christmas like other stores."
