Pub grub at its best

I had lunch today at The Upton Inn in Upton Cheyney - voted the Kingswood Constituency's Pub of the Year. Landlord Jamie Pike made my friend Carolyn and I very welcome from the moment we stepped in out of the rain and wind. We ordered scampi and chips times two, served with mushy peas and salad. You can choose either a large or small portion on all the main courses and pies on the daytime menu, depending on your appetite. We were hungry! Our scampi was £8.95 a head and the 'senior's' portion was £4.95 - although you don't have to be on a pension to opt for the smaller helping! We did not have to wait long for our meals which were piping hot and delicious. Pub grub at its best. We were too full for one of the lovely puds which also come in two sizes - one a regular size and the other to share - but I have tried both the profiteroles and chocolate brownie on previous visits and can thoroughly recommend them both! Check out their festive evening menu at £25.95 per head (under-10s £15) and their popular Sunday carvery.

Welcome to The Upton Inn!

Based in Bristol, there’s something tempting going on every night of the week at The Upton Inn. This is a traditional pub through and through, offering excellent traditional fare and the familiar atmosphere that only comes from having a loyal clientele.

Monday night is quiz night – test your general knowledge, win a prize and try a curry for just £4.99. Prepare for a hearty feast on Tuesday when you can enjoy two 10oz rump steaks, with all the trimmings and a bottle of house wine, for just £25. On Wednesday, join in the cake decorating classes, then on Thursday tuck into a midweek treat from the main menu and relax with a pint of real ale. Friday is fish night – select two fish dishes from a choice of five, enjoy your meal with a bottle of house wine and pay just £30. Catch up over a full English and a coffee on Saturday breakfast mornings, then go back on Sunday for the lunchtime carvery – just £3.95 for kids and £8.45 for adults.

The main menu is available all week and offers reduced prices for senior citizens. Main courses range from pies and pub staples to sandwiches and jackets, as well as a number of pasta dishes and delicious pizzas. Puddings are plentiful and the service exemplary. So from now on, I’m busy – because all nights in my diary are reserved for The Upton Inn.
