Another record for the dancing couple who put the jig in jigsaw
They're more used to breaking world records through their dancing achievements.
But now Bath dance teachers James Whitehead and Joanna Kucia have laid claim to a new title – the first people in the UK to complete the world's biggest jigsaw puzzle.
The couple, who are getting married this weekend, spent just under 12 weeks putting together the 32,000 pieces which make up the Ravensburger jigsaw Double Retrospect.
The organisers of the Bath International Dance Festival are now hoping that the finished article, which measures around 18ft by 6ft and is made up of 32 panels featuring the work of artist Keith Harding, can be donated to a good cause such as a hospital, museum or gallery.
James said: "Now that it's completed, we wanted to offer it to a suitable host in the city.
"It's quite a rare attraction and as far as Ravensburger know, it is the first to be completed in the UK and joins just a handful around the world.
"It would be good if it could be placed on show somewhere, and may prove a good tourist attraction to add to a city location."
The two dancers are the founders of Viva La Dance and through their work with the festival have been responsible for setting a number of new world records in the city.
In 2009 they successfully broke the record for the number of people simultaneously dancing a waltz, while last year more than 200 people joined together to perform with umbrellas to the classic song Singin' in the Rain.
The jigsaw, which is the largest commercially available one in the world, weighs two and half stone – the weight of an average four-year-old.
James said he had bought his fiancée the puzzle to help her relax outside their dancing commitments.
After putting the panels together at Claverton Village Hall, the couple have now broken it up into the 32 parts again.
