Plans for regulars to take over Bath's Bell pub could move another step forward this weekend.

A third public meeting is being held at the Walcot Street pub where locals will be able to hear details of the community buyout bid.

The distinctive pub was put up for sale for £925,000 two months ago by current owner Ian Wood.

So concerned were locals that it would be bought by a chain they decided to try to snap it up themselves.

Steve Henwood, who organises The Bell's live music, and has led the initiative to get a community group to buy the pub, said this weekend's meeting would be a milestone in the project.

He said at the meeting there would be an announcement detailing the community buyout, people would be able to register their interest in investing in the pub, and an action committee would be created.

He said: "We can't give details at this point because there are a couple of meetings that some of us will be having during the week that could substantially affect the flavour of what ends up coming out but we will be through with that process by Sunday."

A film, called Saved By The Bell, which is being made to capture the spirit of The Bell, and its distinctive live music offering, is also nearing completion.

The film, being made by former Ralph Allen School pupil, Hattie Knight, 22, who said the pub was a "safe haven" for her, is now in the editing stages and will be given to any new owner.

T-shirts in support of The Bell have also been printed to raise money for the Saved By The Bell film.

The meeting is being held at The Bell on Sunday at 3.30pm.

“I think The Bell is well worth saving. Every week we hear the closing of more and more pubs. The Bell has a great history and in my mind a greater future. The music side alone is worth it's weight in gold!”

“...We are selling them for the paltry sum of £10 and all proceeds are going straight back into funding for the film. Ideally any extra cash will go into the community buyout project...

So really this hypothetical home-made film has nothing to do with the Bell, yet continues to receive free advertising every time the Bell is mentioned.

I wish it wouldn't, and we could remain focussed.”
