£30m investment to tackle traffic congestion
A £30-million investment is being made in Bath's park and ride service by B&NES council, the Government and bus firm First to tackle traffic and congestion. It includes:
â Increasing the number of park and ride spaces available by 50 per cent to 2,860. Construction work is under way at the Odd Down site, and is expected to be completed by Christmas. Work at the Lansdown site is scheduled to be completed by March, with work at the Newbridge site starting early next year, to be completed by June 2013.
â Introducing a new £2.5 million bus fleet which is hybrid diesel/electric. The fleet is paid for by First, with a £650,000 contribution from the Government's Green Bus Fund. The buses will produce lower carbon emissions, providing a quieter, more comfortable journey for passengers. They also have free wi-fi, leather seats, and climate control, and will start running from Sunday.
â Expanding to a seven-day-a-week service, which began last month.

“A good move. The next one should be to completely ban cars from the city centre. All that space given over to car parks could be put to better use.”
