Have your say on school buses

Wednesday, November 19, 2008, 11:52

People are being invited to give their views on school transport at a public meeting to be held next month.

The so-called public contributor session will be held as part of Bath and North East Somerset Council's review of the transport services to secondary schools.

The review is looking at how services can be improved to tackle problems of high cost, overcrowding and traffic.

Parents, students and members of the public are invited to have their say on the issue in front of the council's children and young people overview and scrutiny panel.

The results of a recent online survey to find out what the public wants to see changed will also be discussed at the meeting.

The issue is a burning one in Bath, where parents are concerned that children attending schools such as Ralph Allen are having to stand on public services ebcause they are so crowded.

Chair of the panel Cllr Sally Davis (Con, Farmborough) said council officers, local campaign groups and FirstBus had been invited to the meeting, but that it was members of the public who were most important in the discussion.

The meeting will take place on Monday December 8 from 5.30pm to 8.30pm in the Banqueting Room at the Guildhall.

People must submit their representations to the panel in writing or during one of the time-limited slots at the meeting.

The deadline for submissions is Wednesday December 3.

To find out more about the review or to contact the panel to register or with comments and questions, email scrutiny@bathnes.gov.uk, phone 01225 396053 or write to Cllr Davis at the Guildhall, High Street, Bath, BA1 5AW.
