Police raid homes in hunt for drugs
The action was part of a government initiative called National Tackling Drugs Week, which officers have said is timely because of recent allegations against Bath Rugby players.
This morning police teams in riot vans swooped on a house at Rosewarn Close in Whiteway and on three flats in Parsonage Lane in the city centre, and arrested three people.
Inspector Tim Stuckes has been co-ordinating the operations in the Bath area and said the raids were important to show the community that the police were serious.
He said: "These raids were about using the intelligence that members of the public have given us and taking action as a result of that.
"This sends out a message in those areas that the police are prepared to take action.
"It is about the community saying they don't think this type of thing is right, and the police want to know about it.
"We are doing something positive about drugs in Bath and it is very topical at the moment, with Bath Rugby players being in the news."
Insp Stuckes added that although not all the raids had led to arrests or the seizure of drugs, the day had still been a success.
In one of the flats at Parsonage Lane, off Westgate Street, police recovered a small wrap of what is believed to heroin and arrested a 32-year-old man on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.
In another, they found a small wrap of what they believe to be crack cocaine and some items of antique cutlery, which are thought to be stolen.
Police arrested a 30-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman for possession of a controlled substance and theft.
No action was taken against the people living in the other flat or at the house at Rosewarn Close.
National Tackling Drugs Week is designed to show the community that the police are listening to their concerns about the problem.
The week has also see rehabilitation work with offenders and making officers more aware of the help available to addicts.
