Look Hugh's baking
The bakery, which has been launched at his River Cottage Canteen, will see chefs preparing and baking bread, scones, cakes and desserts in the window of the cafe.
Mr Fearnley-Whittingstall visited the canteen in the foyer of the Komedia comedy club in Westgate Street to officially open the new feature at his three-month old restaurant.
He said: "All the bread and cakes are made on the premises but we weren't making a lot of noise about that until now.
"We have been looking at the space by the window since we started and thought this is a great place to show people what we do.
"It really works for us in all sorts of ways and shows our commitment to home baking."
He said they were always keen to encourage people to cook things for themselves and were keen to show customers the recipes for the things they eat in the canteen.
He said: "Obviously we have to serve great food to the people of Bath and we never stint in our mission to give people to encourage people to cook at home as well as grow their own their own vegetables."
Daniel Stevens, senior chef the River Cottage headquarters, in Devon, has also been in Bath this week helping to launch the bakery.
He said: "It is the most satisfying thing you can cook yourself and everyone loves eating fresh bread.
"It is great for people to be able to walk past and watch the chefs cooking it.
"I would never say stop buying bread from the supermarket as it is not always practical.
"No one has the time to cook fresh bread every day but on a Saturday in the autumn, spend a few hours and fill the house with the lovely smell."
Mr Fearnley-Whittingstall said he was pleased with the way things were going at the restaurant.
He said: "Obviously when you start something new it takes a little while to get things going but we're absolutely motoring now and I am absolutely delighted with what is going on.
"I have great confidence in the team here."
On Saturday the canteen will be launching its first ever Landshare event, which will be run by River Cottage head gardener, Mark Diacono.
The event will invite people to find out more about how you can get involved in a new initiative which aims to find more land to grow vegetables on.
Mr Fearnley-Whittingstall said: "It is a fantastic project we have been working with since the autumn.
"There is a shortage of allotment space and we are trying to crack down on that by looking at creative ways of freeing up land.
"Landshare has a website which works like a dating agency.
"People will be able to log in and see who has land available in their area."
