Golden Globe nomination for Jamie Cullum

Monday, December 15, 2008, 08:28

Singer Jamie Cullum has received his second Golden Globe nomination after his latest collaboration with screen legend Clint Eastwood.

The jazz star whose parents live in Bath has impressed the actor and director in the last year.

He has been nominated for Gran Torino, from the film of the same name, in the Best Original Song category in the 2009 awards.

The film – directed by and starring Eastwood – had its US premiere on Friday and will be released nationwide next month.

Cullum was also nominated for this year's award in the same category for his performance of the track Grace Is Gone, written by Eastwood and Carole Bayer Sager for the film of that name.

Cullum wrote Gran Torino with Eastwood.

He said: "I can't imagine, as a songwriter, having a greater springboard to write a song – a beautiful script and a fabulous movie. It is quite inspiring to know that someone as legendary as Clint Eastwood would take the risk on a British piano player to make music to accompany his film. This has been an incredible experience for me."

The song will be available for download from iTunes on December 23. Both Cullum and Eastwood are featured singing Gran Torino during the film's emotional finale.

Earlier this year, Eastwood and Cullum jointly headlined at the Monterey Jazz Festival's closing evening session.

There Eastwood had said: "I just see in him a great spontaneity... a great showman and player, and I think he's everything that jazz needs today."
