Hairy way of helping charity

Wednesday, December 03, 2008, 13:17

Guildhall employees threw away the razors to show their support for a men's cancer charity.

Workers at Mouchel, Bath and North East Somerset Council's IT service provider, grew moustaches throughout November to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Charity.

Twelve men in the office took part in Movember, a national campaign where participants are sponsored for growing their facial hair into the bushiest or wackiest moustache.

Service manager Sally Cummings said: "This is the second year running we have supported this charity.

"There are two or three people in the office who have had friends or family affected by the disease, so it is a cause very dear to people's hearts."

The hairy competition was judged by students from Three Ways School in Odd Down, who crowned Pete Grimes the winner for his handlebar moustache.

Women at the company also wanted to do their part, so baked cakes for an office sale.

Workers managed to raise £1,000 for the charity and the company agreed to match their efforts, so the grand total has now reached £2,000.
