A day of activities looking at ways of making Bath a more sustainable city has been organised next month.

The Big Transition Bath Event takes place at the BRLSI in Queen Square on Saturday, November 14 from 9.30am to 5pm.

It is billed as a fun and creative day of talks and workshops, with a chance for those concerned about climate change to listen to and debate with green living experts.

Organisers say it will be family- friendly while the sessions will look at issues from energy use and sustainable building to community food growing and schools.

Tickets, priced £10 for adults, £7 concessions, and £4 for children aged between three and 10, are available from the Bath Festivals Box Office at Abbey Green, by phone on Bath 463362 or online at www.bathfestivals.org.uk.

There will be a ceilidh at Chapel Arts in Lower Borough Walls from 7.30pm to 11pm, with tickets £6 in advance from the box office or £7 on the door. Combined tickets cost £15.

Speakers will include author Mark Lynas and ecologist Julian Caldecott.

Permaculture expert Patrick Whitefield will talk at a meeting organised by Bathford environmental campaign group Transition Initiative on Tuesday, November 3 at 8pm at the village's Royal British Legion hall.

It is the first in a series of talks in Bathford designed to help local people start growing their own food.
