Dentist's widow dies at 94 in nursing home

Wednesday, January 07, 2009, 08:36

The widow of a Bath dentist has died at the age of 94.

Blanche Greenwood's husband Philip had a dental practice in Abbey Church Yard until 1972 when their son Jonathan took over.

Mrs Greenwood was born in Bradford in 1914, and attended Harrogate Girls' School.

She became a beautician before marrying Philip in 1939 at which point the couple moved to Bath when Mr Greenwood bought the practice.

During the war she worked as a secretary at the MoD.

Their son was born in 1944.

For most of their married life they lived at Richmond Road, Lansdown.

After his retirement the couple travelled extensively.

The death of Mr Greenwood in 1993 had a big impact on his wife who remained in Bath until 2004 when she went to live with her son and daughter-in-law Joan in Timsbury.

Suffering from Alzheimer's, she found it increasingly difficult to cope and last July moved to Cholwell House Nursing Home at Temple Cloud.

Mrs Greenwood, who was cremated in a private ceremony, is survived by her son, grandson Ben and great-grandchildren Zara and Keane.
