A 39-year-old cyclist from Bath has died after her bike was in a collision with a car on the edge of Box last night.

The woman had been riding towards the village at around 7.20pm when she was overtaken by a light green Ford Focus.

The collision, which happened on the A4 near the Platinum Nissan car dealership site, saw the cyclist come into contact with the bonnet and windscreen of the car.

Great Western Ambulance were also called to the scene and took the cyclist to the Royal United Hospital.

A spokeswoman said staff acted quickly to try to treat her.

The woman, who has not been named by police, sustained serious head injuries and was taken to hospital where she later died.

The driver and passengers in the Ford Focus were unharmed.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and have asked anyone with any information to contact PC Chris Penny on 08454087000 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800555111.

The spot is the same one where a triathlete from Bath was killed 14 years ago.

Mick Cossins was 55 when he was knocked from his bike in a collision with a car while he was on a training run.
