The five - including one which has been at the centre of the TV show The Hotel Inspector - are given the accolade of main entries in today's 2009 Good Hotel Guide.
And another eight make it into the runners-up shortlist of the independent guide, which prides itself on taking no advertising, fees or free hospitality.
The book's main section includes Apsley House at Newbridge Hill, The Bath Priory at Weston, Number 30 B&B at Crescent Gardens, The Queensberry in Russel Street and Tasburgh House in Warminster Road.
The Tasburgh House is owned by Sue Keeling, who decluttered and raised the hotel's internet profile after taking part in the Channel 5 TV show.
The guide is published today with its findings based on reports from customers, travel journalists and experts in the industry.
The write-ups for all five rave about the rooms on offer, the ambience, decor, views and service.
Apsley House Guest House is described as 'charming, elegant, airy and with the luxurious feel of a hotel.'
The Bath Priory Hotel is praised for its food with a mention for Michelin-starred chef Chris Horridge.
The hotel is also recommended for its opulence, quiet atmosphere and 'super' landscaped gardens.
Popular B&B Number 30 in Crescent Gardens is described by writers as 'spotless and comfortable.'
At the Queensberry, the Olive Tree restaurant's Cornish red mullet with lemon thyme crushed potatoes was given high praise and breakfast was described as 'an appetising affair.'
The staff are described by visitors as 'welcoming and helpful.'
The hotel has recently been refurbished and rooms have iPod docking stations and wet rooms.
The Tasburgh House is recommended for families and is praised for its beautiful views.
The Swan and Woolley Grange hotels in Bradford on Avon also merit main entries in the book.
Shortlisted hotels are the Aquae Sulis, Ayrlington, Dorian House, Duke's, Harington's, Kennard and Paradise House in Bath and Eagle House at Bathford.
The Good Hotel Guide is available for £20.
