The naked truth
Actually, I think I would rather see McDonalds and Phones 4U instead of that ugly sculpture in SouthGate! (Chronicle, February 28). I agree absolutely with Clive Thomas (Chronicle, February 7). I also hope it is not going to be a permanent fixture. I do not profess to be an expert in sculptural art. I am going purely by gut reaction – yuk.
I once saw a couple passing by the statue and one said to the other: "Oh, look what the vandals have done".
In my view it is an embarrassment to the city.

“Although the comment made by the passing couple did make me laugh I have to admit that I also find this sculpture ghastly. A fountain would have been far preferable with some seating round it and even a splash of colour from some plantings. Dread to think what the place looks like today in the pouring rain and with no covered areas to walk under!”
