Minerva Bath rower Vicky Thornley said she was delighted to end her first season at senior level with another World Cup medal.

The 22-year-old, who only took up rowing three years ago, was part of the women's eight which won bronze for Great Britain in Lucerne, Switzerland last weekend.

It was the third time the developing team had finished on the podium during the 2010 World Cup series and Thornley, a former University of Bath student, was thrilled to play her part.

"I didn't really think about all this at the start of the season," she said.

"I was just concentrating on getting a seat in the boat so it's really good to win medals. We've still got the World Championships to come so that's the next thing to concentrate on."

The eight's bronze was one of 11 medals won over the weekend by Britain, completing the team's best- ever World Cup campaign.

Leading the way on Sunday was former Monkton Combe pupil Alex Partridge and his partners in the men's four crew – Matt Langridge, Alex Gregory and Ric Egington – who won gold to claim the overall yellow jersey for the season.

The reigning world champions put a disappointing performance in the previous World Cup fixture at Munich behind them to power to victory in 5mins 55.15secs, two seconds clear of New Zealand.

"I'm really proud of that race," said Partridge.

"We performed really badly in Munich so we knew we had to do something. We missed Henley Royal Regatta, which we love, to prepare for this but it was worth it."
