My grim view of the park-and-ride future

This is Bath

As I see it, the real agenda for moving the park-and-ride on to the Bathampton Meadows, is to open up this fabulous green belt approach to Bath for future development.

B&NES bought the land at Mill Lane because it knew one day that 'Keeping Rugby at The Rec.' would not be viable.

We all know that it's not a training ground it wants there, but a full-blown spectator facility, with stands, corporate facilities, and a 'handy little park-and-ride' for all the rugby visitors.

Thereafter, we could have full commercial development stretching from the back of Morrisons, all the way to Bathford.

Only one thing will save us from our gutless B&NES councillors, and wishy-washy MP, and that is someone with the courage, drive and conviction to get the A46 joined up to the Warminster Road, so that the levels of traffic Cllr Gerrish refers to (much of it only entering this side of Bath to get over the Cleveland Bridge and onto the A36), can be removed from the equation.

I think most of what B&NES has done in the past, and plan for our future, is pure spin, designed to allow congestion charging by the back door, and the herding of us, like lemmings, onto fleets of ridiculous buses.

As the largest commercial landlord in Bath, B&NES will come to rue the day it declares war on the visiting private motorist.

This will contribute to the final demise of our unique independent shopkeepers, and leave our once beautiful city to the vagaries of fleeting herds of tourists and the seagulls and pigeons that will feed on ever-increasing mountains of their detritus.
