As chairman of the Golden Oldies, I would like to thank Bath Spa University for so generously dedicating the collection at their wonderful carol concert in Bath Abbey to the Golden Oldies charity.

We provide regular singing sessions for the over 70s in the Bath and north east Somerset area and we have gone from four sessions just a year ago to 40 now. The sessions are usually held in community centres and once a month we have a very popular Big Sing in the Pavilion, attended by several hundred Goldies.

The money from collections like Bath Spa University and also the collection from Grenville Jones' Christmas concert at The Forum recently, which raised a marvellous £1,000, will help to provide drivers to get the elderly people to the singing venues. We are always looking for volunteer drivers and if anyone can help, we would really appreciate it if they contacted Abby on 01761 470006.

It's wonderful to see the happiness singing gives to the elderly people at our sessions. The support of everyone is very much appreciated.

Through the pages of The Bath Chronicle I would like to give a huge thank you to all those organisations, businesses (and of course The Bath Chronicle itself) for the amazing support that has been given to the Golden-Oldies charity which started here in Bath only a few short months ago.

From a handful of free, fun singing sessions in Bath and north east Somerset in January of this year we will have more than 40 in January 2009.

This would not have been possible without funding support from Somer Housing and a number of other housing providers and local authorities across the West of England.

Commercial support has enabled us to plan for the future, with Tesco, Bupa Care Homes and HSBC making wonderful contributions and having faith in our work.

The people of Bath have been behind Golden-Oldies from the onset and on behalf of the Goldies themselves I would like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and repeat my thanks to everyone for their support.
