A golden girl who is on top of the world
There are certain things that can never be taken away from you.
Once you are President of the United States, for instance, you get called Mr President forever. And, as one truly admirable Bath lady is about to discover, once you become an Olympic champion then you remain one until you finally leave the rostrum of life.
-

That new-found lifelong status is just more one thing that our 'Golden Girl' Amy Williams is going to have to get used to after she produced a stunning performance to bob skeleton her way to an Olympic gold medal.
Although she went to the Winter Olympics with everyone's highest hopes, Amy was not a favourite to win a gold and becoming the Olympic champion surpassed all expectations and turned the female 'Bath Bullet' into a national icon overnight.
For Amy this is the culmination of years of hard work here in her beloved home city. She has lived here since the age of seven and even stayed in the city when she moved to university. That, of course, is because the astonishing facilities that the University of Bath has to offer meant she could stay close to her friends and family while pursuing her sporting dreams.
Bath as a city, therefore, clearly has played a major role in Amy's success, as have all her friends, family, teachers and coaches.
But, however modest Amy is, we should never forget that this is, above all her triumph. A triumph of her ability, her dedication and of her amazing spirit.
Well done, Amy – we are all so incredibly proud of you.
