Public toilets in Peasedown St John have been closed after being used for drug-taking.

Bath and North East Somerset Council is now deciding the future of the loos at Greenlands Road, where police had raised concerns over drug abuse.

The council now wants to hear the views of villagers on whether or not the toilets should be closed permanently.

People have until Monday March 5 to express a view via email to public_protection@bathnes.gov.uk or by phone on 01225 396914.

Local councillor Nathan Hartley (Lib Dem, Peasedown) said: “We welcome this opportunity for people to have their say about the public toilets which residents regularly tell us are a problem. We hope as many people as possible have their say by contacting the council or ourselves.”

    “@PippaMurray80 Hi Spelling Bee,

Sorry I didn't realize this was some sort of English exam? Its commenting system on a very common and lower classed newspaper. As I said in my previous comment, close the damn things.”

“My boyfriend Dazz lives near these toilets sometimes his own toilet will be occupied and I will be desperate to relieve myself and I will need to go use these toilets instead. It's ridiculous closing these toilets down. What if I need to go on the street now and I get arrested? I remember once down caddilacs all the cubicles were full and I had to go in the sink and someone told the bouncer and I got thrown out and he wouldn't even let me back in in exchange for SSB.”

“Mcupis wrote why not catch the people who are abusing them?

I'd be interested to know if it would be legal to put a camera in the toilets that linked to the police station. Even if you did that, it would still not be as easy to solve as you seem to be suggesting. The closest police station is Radstock (or is it the one in town?) which is quite a few miles away from the toilets, so it is not easy for police to attend the scene quickly (especially considering the cut in police numbers in the area).

My guess would be that they have discussed your option and have decided that they are unable to make the toilets safe, so they had no choice but to close them. I sympathise with police over issues such as these.”

“Here's a novel plan. Instead of closing public toilets, why not catch the people who are abusing them, punish them and rehabilitate them, find their dealers and throw the book at them and leave the rest of us with good quality public conveniences which we have paid for many times over with out taxes?”
