“I just want to register somewhere how upset and indeed angry I am at the loss of the restaurants in the Podium. Due to an accident I had not been able to go into town for some months and was so disappointed not to be able to visit Arabesque, the Lebanese place which was our favourite for lunchtime, lovely atmosphere, consistently good food and affordable on our budget. The Italian was also excellent and had a lovely view as did most of the cafes due to the elevated po sition. They were a good central place to meet friends and I do not know where to go now as many of the Bath eateries are over-priced and poor, constantly changing and without the pleasant situation.
Does anyone know if any of the businesses have been able to relocate in Bath? Especially the Lebanese one?
I don't want or need a larger Waitrose, I can't afford to shop in the one that's there and I don't need another department store, but all those cafes were good value, pleasant places for locals and tourists to eat, and were mostly the type of small businesses I thought Bath wanted to keep!
How very sad!!!”
“It is a bit of a shame, I agree. I'm not aware that any of the restaurants have relocated so far. It's also a shame the Podium closure didn't coincide with the final Southgate Phase, where 7 new restaurant units will be installed between the railway and bus stations. Perhaps this will offer some suitable alternatives once it does open, which unfortunately won't be for a while.”
