“Given that it would be senseless and silly for anyone to approach any town when there's a busy festivity on and when there are a good number of easy and convenient Park and Rides available, do you mean to say that you spent an hour trying to park your car in a Park and Ride but failed?”

“Must be related to that dopey councillor called Haeberling, a silly spelling mistake of their name obviously! (it's not too far to come from Saltford you know?)

As Elevation says, USE THE PARK AND RIDE you fool!

Why does our council spend time and good money to set up these park and rides, which I am in full support of, and not stop the traffic from entering normally?”

“Big illuminated signs up on entry roads into Bath last weekend. "Park and Rides Full. All Council owned Car Parks Full". In future we must ensure our visitors arrive before 5am to avoid disappointment.”

“Viscount V, my genuine question to you: were there REALLY signs up last weekend on entry roads into Bath announcing "Park and Rides Full. All Council-owned Car Parks Full"?

    (I'm not 100% sure you're not joking!)

However, if you are NOT joking, then I am amazed. However, given that there are a good number of big "Park and Rides" around Bath, in addition to other car-parks, if they were indeed all full because of the Christmas Market, then the Bath Christmas Market appears to be very greatly appreciated by an enormous number of people. And that's a fantastic achievement for Bath! Great stuff.

I don't think that the Council should create lots more Park and Rides just so that once a year all the world can get into the Christmas Market. However, if the current number are full on a considerable number of days throughout the year then that would be a different story, perhaps?”

“Today (Tue 6th) it took me over 30 mins to crawl from the by-pass to the Paragon at about 3:00pm. The sole cause of the problem, as far as I could see, was a lorry broken-down in the LH lane just short of the traffic lights at the Cleveland Place Junction. Not a single policeman or 'traffic warden' in sight anywhere to control the chaos!

It only needed one or two cars stopped in the RH lane at the lights to halt all traffic in the LH lane. Had the drivers had the sense to 'stop short' of the lorry, then the LH lane traffic could have flowed freely around it until such time as the RH lane traffic had a green light. Of course, the drivers were never going to give way on their own volition, but all it needed was one constable to hold the traffic back or let it on as necessary.

Oh, and a message for 'Faresaver' - while I was stuck in the queue I saw the lady driver of your X31 bus to Chippenham using a hand-held mobile phone while driving. Naughty girl!!!”

“I drove in last Saturday parked up at lease a mile from the centre and got told by some stuck up resident that I shouldn't park out side her house!!!!!
May I remind them they do not own the road outside there house, I pay road tax for the privilege to park on the road with in reason where I like.”

“@MaudHeath , Use the park and Ride, it's simple. Every week thousands of car drivers decend on Bath and don't care where they park most of the time, across kerbs, on the pavement, on corners. Personally I think the police or council should give heavier fines to these idiots who think that because they shop in Bath they can park anywhere they wish.

It wouldn't surprise me if out of town vehicles started getting damaged because they ignore the requests of Bath residents not to park in certain places. (they may actually have someone coming to visit them! and we all know parking in Bath is bad enough at the best of times)

Maybe we cam all come around and park in front of your house sometime? This is the typical attitude of visitors to Bath!

A mile from the centre? You mean you drove past the park and ride? Try using it.”

“Well I thought Bath residents had plenty of there own parking places, if you are outside this area as I said you don't own the road outside your house, feel free to park outside my house as long as you don't block the drive. its all part of the give and take of driving.

As for the Park and ride it is £3.20 each, a little pricey if there are 4 in the car.
I hope you are not threatening to damage cars as I think the police would be far more interested in that!!!!

I must admit there are much better places to shop for every day products.
Most times I come in on 2 wheels, is that OK? or perhaps that's wrong as well.”

“Is this thread real? No information about whether they tried the park and rides, or the multistories - if they really came and expected to park on the road in Bath then that really was a bit silly. Is this just an invented thread on a dog whistle subject to get some traffic to these forums? Nevertheless - you don't own the road outside your house and you must really spend a lot of your time getting hot under the collar if you think you do.”

“Well I thought this was a valid discussion.
Having lived and worked in and around Bath for more than 40 years it was interesting to comment on how the council and locals feel Bath traffic has developed.
Yes I have tried the park and ride several times, OK if you want to stay a while in Bath but otherwise expensive and slow. The car parks are a better bet if there is more than one in the car, and you only pay for the time you stay.
My main gripe is the lack of on street parking for general day to day visits, every street seems to be resident only parking and most of it is unused during the working day.
Being still willing and able to walk a fair way I feel annoyed if I cant visit my local city and park for free for a couple of hours without some one moaning about where I park (perhaps those days have gone).
Its a lovely city as long as your a tourist.”

“MaudHeath: "I pay road tax for the privilege to park on the road with in reason where I like."

Um, no you don't. You pay Vehicle Excise Duty, a tax on the relative polluting power of your vehicle. It confers no greater or lesser rights over road space. In fact, as a driver, you use the road _under licence_, whereas pedestrians, cyclists & horse riders really do have it as a right.”

    “Dear MaudHeath,
I'm so sorry that deniro2010 was rude to you. I live roughly a mile from the city centre, and have no objection whatsoever to people parking outside my house (even when I am expecting visitors) - they have as much right to do so as I do.
I'm also sorry that a fellow resident told you not to park outside her house - let me know the name of the road and I'll make sure I park there as often as possible too!
I hope these uncharitable individuals don't stop you from visiting in the future.”
