“I'd love to see gambling addicts wandering the streets. What Bath is lacking is a sense that money is everything and its acquisition justifies the application of desperate measures, whether by lowly punters, casino operators, or simply posting messages on the subject on local news web sites.”

“Bath is missing what made it an unsavoury place in bygone times. The historical Bath tourist experience, to put it in the most polite terms, was not at all enhanced by gambling and its linked "professions".To repeat the same mistakes (not learn from the history) and expect different results in the 21st century is insanity.”

“Do we really want Las Vegas in Bath? Casinos are just a larger version of betting shops; refuges for losers. We don't need that sort of visitor; it's bad enough with two plastic budget hotels in prospect , even more clone shops in the Las Vegas neo-Georgian South Gate. Casinos are another bird-brained idea from the Blair years, which will fail, along with HS2, nuclear power, wind farms and the like.Still, we're stuck with the Spa; I suppose a casino or two won't make a lot of difference to the spending habits of residents and visitors, except that there will be less trade for traditional independent small traders.Hopefully, this idea will die a natural death along all the other BaNES gimmicks.”
