Same day waste collections from June
Rubbish and recyclable waste will be collected on the same day in the Bath area from June.
The move from Bath and North East Somerset Council will see residents putting out refuse, recycling, cardboard and garden waste on the same day every week - although cardboard collections as well as the composting service will still operate fortnightly.
Some areas in the city have up to three separate days for rubbish, recycling and cardboard collections so council chiefs said the change would reduce confusion.
Cllr Charles Gerrish (Con, Keynsham North), cabinet member for customer services, said: "This change is in direct response to residents who want a more convenient waste collection service and the need to increase recycling rates to meet the council's key priority of addressing the causes and effects of climate change."
Plans are under way to simplify the system and the same day waste service will be launched from June 8.
Residents will be contacted two weeks before the start date to notify them of their new collection day.
Cllr Gerrish said the council wanted to make sure the change was as smooth as possible.
He said: "The council will be taking steps to ensure the change is publicised well in advance and let householders know what their new waste collection day will be.
"Significant efforts are being made by the council to ensure that the change is conducted as smoothly as possible, which includes issues such as the logistics of same day collections, and promoting awareness."
A web page has also been created so residents can find out more about what the council is doing to implement the change and how it affects them.
The council will also be setting up roadshows and displays throughout the district and working with communities to increase awareness of the scheme.
