Find out how you can cover the costs of your university degree
Young people worried about the costs involved with studying for
a university degree should make sure they visit the Bath Skills Fair where they
can meet with companies who could cover the costs of their studies.
Top UK businesses including accountants KPMG and Deloitte and
Barclays bank will be among the companies attending the Skills Fair to promote
their popular school leaver schemes.
The schemes, which recruit 18 year olds from College or school, offer
students the chance to gain a university degree and professional qualifications
while working, learning important on-the-job skills at the same time as
studying. In some cases, the companies also offer a generous trainee salary.
Wessex Water will also be at the Bath Skills Fair as they look
to recruit ambitious and motivated young people to their construction
technician development programme, which starts in September 2012.
The two-year development programme provides individuals with the
opportunity to work within the company's construction division, gaining a wide
range of skills and experience while achieving a professional qualification in
a construction/civil engineering discipline (NVQ Level 3).
Not Going to Uni will also be at the event, promoting advanced
apprenticeships and trainee programmes for a range of areas including retail
management, IT, accountancy and business.
Mark Froggatt, School Leaver Champion
at KPMG, said: "I am thrilled that KPMG has been invited to support this event.
The Bath Skills Fair gives us at KPMG a wonderful opportunity to liaise with
students and discuss our recruitment programmes.
"With the increase in university fees
it's never been so important for students to consider their options post-college.
We shall be in attendance to show that with our School Leaver Programme, there
are opportunities to gain access to Higher Education without the burden of
tuition fees."
Matt Atkinson, City of Bath College Principal, said: "The Bath Skills
Fair is the perfect destination for young people looking for advice and guidance
on those important next steps after school or College."
The Bath Skills Fair takes place at City of Bath College on
Wednesday 7th March 2012 from 1pm to 7pm and is aimed at young
people aged from 15-19 and their parents.
The event aims to provide young people with advice, guidance and
inspiration on those important next steps after school or College. Young people
attending the Skills Fair will have the chance to meet employers and find out
more about apprenticeship opportunities and Higher Education options, including
advanced apprenticeships and sponsored degrees.
The Skills Fair will also provide visitors with a range of
information about vocational learning and there will be a variety of hands-on
activities and demonstrations, as well as a competition to win an iPod 4.

“Sponsored degree schemes offer a generous starting salary and the opportunity to study for higher level qualifications without any debts or tuition fees. These schemes offer fantastic opportunities for school and college leavers but I am worried that many parents and young people don't know about them? What do you think - and what can be done to raise the profile of these schemes?”
