Last chance to see The Radev Collection at Victoria Art Gallery

Time is running out to enjoy an exquisite collection of late 19th/20th Century art at Bath & North East Somerset Council's Victoria Art Gallery.

The Gallery's exhibition 'The Radev Collection: from ****arro to Picasso' – featuring a stunning display of British and French art – draws to a close on 18 November 2012.

The collection is named after Mattei Radev, who reached Britain in 1950 as a stowaway escaping Communist Bulgaria. He drew on all his hard work and skill to become a prominent picture framer.

The exhibition in the lower gallery offers a rare treat to view previously-unseen works by Amedeo Modigliani, Georges Braque, Ben Nicholson, Graham Sutherland, John Piper, Duncan Grant and many other famous artists.

Councillor Cherry Beath (Lib-Dem, Combe Down), Cabinet Member for Sustainable Development, said: "Bath & North East Somerset Council is proud to have staged this magnificent exhibition at the Victoria Art Gallery, which has already proved very popular. The feedback from visitors has been universally positive and donations have been up by 25 per cent!

"We expect to have attracted 22,000 visitors by the end of the show and we encourage everyone to take the opportunity to appreciate the many varied works of art before the display closes on 18 November."

Visitors to the exhibition have come from right across Britain as well as Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Africa and the USA to name but a few!

As part of the Council's drive to offer cultural opportunities to everyone, Jon Benington, Victoria Art Gallery Manager, is leading free tours of the exhibition on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 November from 1pm-1.45pm. Booking is not required.
