Exhibits include historic skiing and tobogganing outfits; such as the gold medal-winning ensemble worn by Amy Williams at the 2010 Winter Olympics – alongside up-to-the-minute fashion pieces like a gold and silver body suit by designer Pam Hogg, who also designs second skin stage wear for the singer Jessie J.
Councillor Cherry Beath (Lib-Dem, Combe Down), Cabinet Member for Sustainable Development, said: "This year has seen everyone come together in celebration of the Olympic and Paralympic spirit. More than 110,000 visitors have enjoyed our 'Sport and Fashion' show since it opened in February, which is a remarkable achievement for the Fashion Museum and makes it the city's most visited exhibition this year.
"Bath & North East Somerset Council is committed to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of culture – and that includes fashion and style. We encourage anyone who hasn't yet seen this winning collection of fashionable and functional sportswear to get along to the Fashion Museum by Sunday 6 January."
The Fashion Museum was recently named one of the top 10 fashion museums in the world by international broadcaster CNN, which mentioned the world-class contribution made by the ground-breaking 'Sport and Fashion' exhibition. The exhibition features some iconic garments connected with such high profile names in the sporting and fashion arenas as Team GB Olympic kit designer Stella McCartney and tennis star Maria Kirilenko.
Rosemary Harden, Manager of Bath & North East Somerset Council's Fashion Museum, said: "This is a really imaginative celebration of how sport and fashion are intertwined – with eye-catching examples such as Serena Williams' vivid blue tennis dress transforming the look on the court, and the Victoria Beckham-designed 'hoodie' gown which appears to be inspired by the ubiquitous sporting garment / track and field classic.
"From the race track to the catwalk to the high street – there's a shared thread running through all these elements which the 'Sport and Fashion' exhibition explores."
The Fashion Museum is open every day, except 25 and 26 December, from 10.30am to 4pm (last exit 5pm). For more information visit www.fashionmuseum.co.uk or call 01225 477789.
