A Bath charity which provides counselling for young people has been given a lifeline thanks to a £12,500 donation from a city event.

The annual Bath Boules Tournament was held in Queen Square during the summer and once again proved popular with hundreds of teams taking part.

This year the main beneficiary was Off the Record, a cause which last year faced closure when it had its funding from Bath and North East Somerset Council cut.

Charity director Jocelyne Tagg said this latest donation would make all the difference to ensuring that it could continue to provide the thousands of counselling sessions to young people across the area.

She said: "This generous donation will make a real difference to our ongoing search for funds to save our counselling service after its funding from the council was cut entirely. We are very grateful indeed to the trustees of the Bath Boules Charitable Trust and to all the sponsors, organisers and competitors."

This year's boules event, which has been running for 18 years, took place over two days in June and saw 120 teams from businesses and organisations across the city compete against each other.

All the profits go to the Bath Boules Charitable Trust, which funds local charities and projects.

Trustee David Gledhill said: "We were impressed by the work done by Off the Record Bath and wanted to support it at a time when its funding was under such pressure."
