"If you asked me how long I'd been singing I'd say 'all my life'," says Yvonne.

"With a history of music 'in the blood' I'd sung in my Dad's '60s group in the Midlands which had meant a plethora of gigs in social clubs and believe me if you can sing there you can sing anywhere – it was the very best of groundings.

"When I married and had children I had to abandon any ideas of featuring on Top of the Pops – but the urge to sing never dwindled.

"In 2000, when my sons were university age, I decided that I'd like to become a professional singer and moved to Devon where I sang in hotels six nights a week. It was an 'easy gig' because most audience members were on holiday and out to have a good time anyway – but it did mean that I had to sing some quite tedious songs.

"Eight years later and having sung one too many Abba hits, just before moving to Bath, I decided to take part in a Teignmouth Jazz Workshop and knew immediately that this was the genre that gave me the freedom to interpret a song in a way I'd never felt able to before.

Since moving to Bath, five years ago, I'm actually enjoying singing more than ever, having settled for the jazz and blues genre."
