Youngsters sing their way to tenth anniversary
Talented young singers from the City of Bath Bach Junior Choir have celebrated its tenth anniversary with a concert and a party.
The choir was formed in 2001 by Nigel Perrin, who wanted children to discover their love of singing from an early age.
He described the project as aiming "to sow a seed for what may be to come in the future".
Now, ten years on, a new musical director Jamie Knights has been passed the baton.
The choir has held an open rehearsal to welcome new members, as well as celebrating the milestone with a short concert for parents and the cutting of a birthday cake.
Mr Knights, who is also Kingswood School's permanent musician-in-residence, said he was proud to have taken up the post.
He said: "I find it remarkable that the junior choir has reached an age that it is now older than some of its current singers, and also that the infectious enjoyment of singing has transformed so many young singers during the junior choir's long history."
The children, whose uniform comprises distinctive purple T-shirts, perform alongside the adult City of Bath Bach Choir at two concerts a year, including the Carols by Candlelight event at the Pump Room.
There are no auditions and the choir is open for boys and girls aged eight and over. It meets on Mondays from 6- 7pm at the Willett Hall at King Edward's School.
Subscription is £25 a term per child and £15 for siblings. For more information go to www.bathbachchoir.org.uk/junior-choir or contact the choir secretary on carroncummins@btinternet.com.
