Withey wins it for Stotherts as Gordano pay the penalty
Gordano missed a late penalty as Stothert & Pitt RFC held on for a 12-10 Somerset Premier away success on Saturday.
Despite playing on a sticky surface, both sides opted for an expansive approach which made for an interesting, and error-strewn, game.
Stotherts twice lost the ball within five meters of their opponents’ line but eventually took the lead when Joe Cox intercepted and raced over from 40 metres.
Dan Smith converted but Gordano’s response was swift as centre Owen Abbott gathered outside half Joe Rowsall’s deft chip to score an excellent try under the posts.

Rowsall’s conversion levelled the scores and his penalty put Gordano ahead on the stroke of half-time.
The two teams cancelled each other out after the brea but Stotherts got the crucial score when the outstanding Joe Cox made a telling break before supplying the try-scoring pass to Ben Withey.
Meanwhile, Stotherts 2nds’ 51-0 thumping of Midsomer Norton 4ths was a family affair, with brothers Aaron and Joel Dixson being joined on the field of play by dad Alan.
Aaron and Joel both touched down, as did Tom Everitt (3), Jason Hunt, Luke Short, Liam Crooks and Rob Rawlings.
The latter also kicked a conversion and Kai Emmett added two.
