Wiltshire youngsters offered the chance to play at The Rec
Young people from across Wiltshire are being offered the opportunity to play rugby in front of thousands of fans at The Rec.
Wiltshire Council have teamed up with the Bath Rugby Foundation and the RFU to deliver local qualification tournaments in Warminster and Chippenham during the Easter holidays for 14 and 15 year olds.
One team from each tournament will then go forward to the grand final, which takes place at half-time during the Bath's big game against Leicester Tigers on Saturday, April 20
The project aims to increase the number of young people playing rugby sevens in Wiltshire and is one of a number of Olympic Legacy projects devised by Wiltshire Council in the wake of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Councillor Jerry Kunkler, portfolio holder for leisure, said: “This is a great opportunity for young people from Wiltshire to try a growing sport like Rugby Sevens. Over the next two years the UK will play host to both the Rugby League and Rugby Union World Cup Finals while Rugby Sevens will also feature as an Olympic sport in Rio.
“We are delighted to have forged successful partnerships with the Bath Rugby Foundation and the RFU while putting this programme together and hope that Wiltshire’s young people are as excited about this project as we are.”
Places are limited to 20 teams in each local qualification tournament, with team bookings open now. Spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and both school teams and club sides are encouraged to take part.
Entry forms, as well as further information about the project can be found at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/sportsdevelopment.
