FAN'S VIEW: A week of hellos and goodbyes
A battling win at Maidenhead and a hard-earned point at home to Havant & Waterlooville has left us on the cusp of the play-offs.
The performances were more gritty than dazzling and we are definitely missing that creative spark that Hoggy gives us.
Still, with basement club Weymouth visiting Twerton Park on Saturday, we are perfectly placed to gatecrash the top five for the first time this season.
The away support at Maidenhead was terrific and Adie Britton made a point of coming onto the supporters' coach to thank the fans for their encouragement.
There has been a high-profile arrival and some notable departures this week. Firstly we welcome back Dave Gilroy on loan from Newport County.
When he left for the Exiles in the summer, some fans viewed it as some kind of betrayal, while others blamed the manager for his departure, so it certainly divided opinion.
Since his return was announced, even a number of his critics seem keen to welcome the prodigal son back to Twerton Park as he gives us an attacking alternative to the successful partnership of Darren Edwards and Kaid Mohamed.
Gilly is a fox in the box who is capable of bagging goals by the hatful, as he showed in his short loan spell at Weston-super-Mare earlier this season where he netted seven times in just six appearances for the goal-shy Seagulls. They have only scored seven goals in the three months since he left.
However, the loan deal sees Stuart Douglas move in the opposite direction. I wish him the best of luck at Spytty Park, which was the scene of his finest moment in City colours when he destroyed the Exiles with a hat-trick last season.
I was very sad to hear the news of the death of Brian Godfrey. He was manager of probably the best-ever Bath City side, the one which won the Southern League in 1977/8 and narrowly missed out on being elected to the Football League, losing out to Wigan Athletic.
It is also sad to see commercial executive Dave Gane leave to take up a position with Bristol Rovers. Dave has been instrumental in securing sponsorship for the club and has organised a number of successful events, including the highly-popular sportsman's dinners with the likes of Gordon Banks.
His last event is The Wurzels gig tomorrow so let's make sure we give him a good send off. Thanks for all your efforts Dave and good luck in your new venture.
