The University of Bath is celebrating its involvement with this summer's Olympic Games.

It has created a dedicated area of its website to tell the story of the contribution it has made to the event, including the activities of athletes, staff, and students past and present.

The project has been organised as part of Universities Week, a national initiative which aims to raise public awareness of the roles universities across the country play.

Bath has been actively involved with the 2012 games, with elite UK and international athletes basing their training at the university because of the science and research technology there, as well as former students helping to design London's cycling velodrome.

The new section of the website includes information about all of this, along with interviews with high-profile athletes such as Jason Gardener and Ben Rushgrove.

University vice-chancellor Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell said: "Universities Week 2012 is an excellent opportunity to showcase some of the fantastic work universities are contributing to the world of sport.

"For a university with a proud tradition in sporting excellence, both in terms of performance and research, we are very excited about the key role we will play in both the Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer.

"Our London 2012 story goes well beyond sporting performance, stretching into all aspects of the games, and the new area of our website will help to tell this story."

Two experts at the university also feature in a new report entitled Supporting a UK Success Story: The impact of University Research and Sport Development, which highlights some of the ways universities have helped prepare Team GB.
