A 3-2 victory at Yate kept the Team Bath Buccs ladies 1sts in contention for a top-two finish in West Clubs Premier Division 1.

The visitors made a great start and took the lead when Suzie Barnes deflected the ball home.

Rebekah Walker then added her name to the scoresheet when an excellent shot after Rosie Bennett slipped the ball into her path from a short corner.

Yate pulled one back from a short corner but Walker netted for a second time when she followed up to score on the rebound following Sarah Whitehead’s effort on goal.

Another short-corner goal cut the gap again but Buccs held on and go into this weekend’s double-header against Bournemouth and Cheltenham on a high.

The 2nds suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Westberries, despite playing some of their best hockey of the season in the first half.

Westberries took the lead against the run of play and a second goal on the counter-attack gave them a 2-0 half-time advantage. Clio McKenna pulled one back after penalty corner routine paid off but, although Lucinda Dawson and Ali Perrio kept the pressure on, Buccs could not find a leveller.

They bounced back the following day, however, beating fellow mid-table side Newquay 4-2 in Cornwall.

Buccs 3rds claimed a 2-0 success at Wimborne Wayfarers, while the 4ths defeated Frome 2nds 5-0 thanks to a brace from Claire Toogood and one goal apiece from Penny Post, Livvy Wills and Clare Elsley.

The 5ths rounded off a good day for the ladies section of the club with a 1-0 victory over Mendip 3rds.

Claire Connell grabbed the only goal, while new keeper Lisa Hamblin finished with a clean sheet at the other end.
