Nine tries and none conceded confirms Walcot as MSN festival U12 winners again.

A beautiful day and a great location saw a wonderful day of rugby. Despite a couple of teams not showing up and the fixtures thrown into confusion, the event was well organised and had a real 'come and enjoy rugby' atmosphere. Credit must be given to MSN RFC for yet again providing a great day for the young rugby fan to enjoy.

Walcot only had four fixtures to play after the no shows and kicked the day off against Combe Down. Walcot won this match up by scoring one try and had a lot of missed opportunities. The matches were only played to a maximum of 15 mins straight through with no half time.

Next up was Chew. Walcot were showing their potential with some quality and determination, pressing Chew back. Unfortunately for Walcot, Chew could play good rugby, too. They defended brilliantly, making the tackles and clearing their lines. It was unlucky that Walcot didn't make use of the overlaps and the game ended 0-0.

The hosts were up next, Midsomer Norton, and after the game they gave Walcot last week at Frome the boys knew they needed to bring their 'A' game. Walcot played a fantastic game scoring three unanswered tries. It looked like they took the good advise from their coaches who had pointed out how to improve from the previous games, playing to their potential.

As things stood going into the final game against Frome, Chew had won all their other games and for Walcot to take the tournament they needed to win this last game by Four tries. As the games were short, the most any team had scored in any game so far was three. Walcot scored very early and hopes were high, then another and another. The win was on and the boys were in a determined and ruthless mood. Their positive attacking play, along with cool heads and good use of the ball, playing as a team, scored two more tries before the final whistle finishing the game 5-0. They had done it!

The huge positive from this was the fact that they had not conceded a single try all day, the platform for any successful team. The whole day was played with a good nature and in a sporting fashion. Combe Down lost a lot of players toward the end and all the teams got together to make up a 'Barbarians' team around their remaining players to fulfill their last fixture. This was what it was all about in the end, no boasting or over exuberance, kids wanting to play a good fair game of rugby no matter who was standing next to them. Well done everyone and thank you Midsomer Norton RFC for a great day.
