Vote for your favourite in Bath's Holburne Museum Portrait Prize competition

Seventy-eight artists entered the 2012 Holburne Portrait Prize, which aims to find the south west’s best painter in the genre.

Some 43 of these have been selected to feature in the competition, with a display in the museum’s new Roper Gallery beginning on Saturday.

There is a strong showing from Bath artists, with Helen Elwes from Bathford, Karen Wallis of Newbridge, Leo Schrecker of Larkhall and Paul Brason of Beechen Cliff making the final reckoning.

The exhibition at the gallery will run until October 14, with the winner chosen by a panel of judges being announced on October 2.

He or she will be given a £5,000 commission to paint a well-known figure from the region.

People visiting the exhibition can also take part in the People’s Prize section of the competition, using forms at the gallery or voting here in our This Is Bath poll on the side of the page.
