A Bath museum is asking for the public's help to win a competition which would see a celebrated artist put on a community event in the city.

The Holburne Museum has been shortlisted as a finalist in national arts competition Connect 10.

It is one of four venues in the running to win a visit from leading contemporary artist Gavin Turk as part of Museums at Night, the annual late-night festival which takes place in May.

If he comes to Bath he has promised to create a magical event in the museum gardens, inspired by the 18th-century Cosmorama, or light and sound installation, which once stood there.

Museum director Alexander Sturgis appealed for people to go online and vote for the Holburne.

He said: "What could be more exciting than Gavin Turk, one of the country's leading contemporary artists, working at the Holburne and creating what is bound to be a mind-boggling spectacular in which we can all join in.

"I know that if Gavin comes here he'll create something no one will forget in a hurry – but we need everybody's help to make it happen.

"Please, if you are reading this, go on to the website and vote for Turk for the Holburne to bring some of unique thrills to our garden."

People can vote online by going to www.museumsatnight.org.uk.

Polling closes at 5pm on Tuesday, March 5.
