CROQUET Bath's Federation League team overcame the Bear of Rodborough in a blustery conditions at the Recreation Ground.

Captain Peter Miles dismissed Brian Pittaway in a one-sided singles game in the morning. Roger Hayes and Andrew Willis then struggled in a drawn-out doubles affair, which ended with the visitors' Tim Blades and Richard Way sneaking home by two points to make the score 1-1.

As the wind strength increased, Bath mastered the difficult conditions better than the Bear in the afternoon singles games, taking early leads in all three matches despite giving big handicap advantages to their opponents.

Blades failed in his attempt to peg out Miles, who in turn pegged him out, while Hayes steadily destroyed Pittaway's challenge in another one- sided game.
