Views on reshaping the river corridor wanted
People with an interest shaping the future role of the River Avon are being encouraged by Bath & North East Somerset Council to give their views on how economic regeneration might be achieved along the river Avon.
The Council's Economic and Community Development Policy Development and Scrutiny Panel are holding an Inquiry Day at 10am, Wednesday 31st October, 2012 at the Guildhall to discuss the recommendations contained within the River Corridor Report that was produced to advise Cabinet on the future role that the Council can play in its potential role as a force for regeneration.
The day will focus on:
- identifying the best sustainable and regenerative ways of addressing the suggested options and ideas suggested by the River Corridor Group's report for consideration by the Cabinet;
- developing a joint and consistent approach that is shared and understood between key stakeholders;
- Informing the vision for a future Council River Strategy which places a higher social, environmental and cultural value to the river;
- ensuring that key stakeholders together with the Council are at the centre of the reshaping of the river corridor.

Guest speakers include Kate Swade from the community assets management group, who will talk about some of her experiences of managing and developing larger community asset projects, and Petrina Brown will talk about the River Catchment Pilot which has been recognized by DEFRA as an example of best practice
Councillor Robin Moss, Chair of the Panel, said, "The purpose of the day will be to review the recommendations contained within the River Corridor Report , produced for Cabinet, to focus on unlocking the econmoic potential of the river, by examining the cultural and the social and environmental value. It also an opportunity to ensure that key stakeholders is at the heart of reshaping the future of the River corridor together with the Council.
"As well as interesting guest speakers, there will be an opportunity to share what work has already been achieved both within the local community and around the country. We will also be holding workshops where people can share their views on what are the best options for developing the River Avon. We hope as many people as possible come along and participate."
