Video: The noisy fan keeping Bath publisher Anthony Grimley awake at night
A fed-up Bath man has turned to YouTube after being kept awake by a noisy extractor fan several hundred yards away from his home.
Publisher Anthony Grimley, from Widcombe, has endured a series of sleepless nights thanks to the noise coming from one of the units at The Vaults food quarter at SouthGate on the other side of the river.

Fed up of being kept awake in the early hours he decided to find the fan involved, and posted a video showing the noise level on YouTube.
The clip, which is 53 seconds long, captures the loud whirring of the fan.

Mr Grimley, 39, said he first heard the noise in December and thought it was a train.
When he arrived back from a holiday on New Year’s Day, he could still hear it.
Mr Grimley said: “It is a constant noise that goes on throughout the night and I can’t sleep.
“I don’t hear it every night, but when I do it lasts all night.
“At first I thought it was a train but then I realised that it was the fan.
“I took the video to prove just how loud it is.
“I have tried everything, including earplugs, to blot it out.
“If I were to draw a parallel for the type of noise it would be like having a road sweeping vehicle parked outside all night sweeping the same bit of road.”
Fellow resident, digital entrepreneur Jake Xu, said on Twitter that he had complained three times to the management at SouthGate.
One tweet said: “@southgate_bath please shut your bloody fan off at the back of the station! It's keeping people up at night! Very annoying.”
A spokesman for The Vaults said: “We are working closely with the tenants to resolve this matter urgently.”

“For those of us who actually have to get up and work for a living, being kept awake all night is enough to make your life hell. Imagine if this guy turned up to work half-asleep because he hadn't slept, and lost his job over it. Would the "The Vaults" take responsibility? No they wouldn't because they don't care about the little people unless they are in their premises spending money.”
