The University of Bath held on to third spot in the BUCS Championship ahead of the Christmas break after some mixed results last week.

Freezing fog and frozen pitches decimated the fixture list, with all outdoor matches cancelled, but Bath were able to reflect on a fantastic overall performance across the sporting arena during the first term of 2012-13.

A clinical performance from the women’s tennis 1st team saw them consolidate their position at the Premier South summit with a 12-0 victory over Cardiff Metropolitan University 1sts.

There was a closer-run affair on the men’s courts, where Bath overcame Cardiff 2nds 8-4 in Western 1A.

In basketball, Bath men’s 1sts remain on course for a third-place finish in their debut Premier South campaign despite an 81-69 defeat at the hands of Brunel.

The men’s fencing 1sts did not have a good day at the office as they lost 135-89 to a very strong Cardiff team who currently top the Western 1A standings.

Bath netball 3rds were beaten 44-26 by Bournemouth in a top-of-the-table Western 2A encounter, with the visitors’ physical presence proving crucial in the final outcome.

There was better news on the squash court, where Bath men’s 1sts saw off Cardiff 4-1.

The Welsh outfit prevailed in the men’s 1sts’ volleyball match, however, recording a 2-0 success in Western 1A.
