University of Bath beat Exeter to Best of the South West crown
The University of Bath claimed the bragging rights for the second year running when they staged the Best of the South West Varsity series against their Exeter counterparts on Saturday.
Ironically, they received the Aldi-sponsored trophy in front of 700 spectators at Mayday Trust Park, home of Bath City, after a 6-1 defeat to Exeter in the men’s football competition.

The women footballers won 3-0, however, and Bath also enjoyed success in the other sports, winning 82-57 in the men’s basketball, 15-8 in the men’s water polo and 48-27 in the netball.
Students’ Union sport officer Jon Gleave said: “It was a fantastic day, with more than 1,000 spectators watching the various events throughout the day.

“It was a great advert for university sport and everyone involved enjoyed the day immensely.”
Students’ Union activities manager Polly Hawker added: “It was a great opportunity to involve the local community at the men’s football match, as well as work alongside Bath City FC and Bath City Juniors.
“It’s always a joy to work with them and we look forward to supporting them more in the future.”
The event was sponsored by Aldi Recruitment, who are currently recruiting for their 2013 graduate intake programme.
