BASKETBALL University of Bath 1sts registered a hugely impressive 88-68 victory over Brunel, the best side they have faced so far in Premier South.

The pace was extremely high throughout a high-scoring first quarter which ended 21-20 to Bath. Brunel's full court press tested Bath in the second quarter but some incredible team play thwarted them and led to easy lay-ups at the other end.

Assists and scores came from almost every member of the team and Bath went on to claim a win that leaves them top of the table alongside London South Bank University.

Garcia led the way with 17 points, Janicot scored 13, Rovira and Hart 12, Cieply, Jones and Hulme 10 and Riley four.

Bath will be looking to avenge their first defeat of the season when they travel to Oxford for their next game.

The 2nd team surrendered their unbeaten record as they went down 64-61 to their Southampton counterparts.

After momentum shifted evenly throughout the first half, Bath pulled away in the third quarter. Halfway through the final quarter, however, two consecutive three-pointers from Southampton gave them the initiative and they finished in front to dent Bath's promotion hopes.

Bath's points came from Allen (20), Butcher (12), Ashby (12), Patinios (9), Her (6) and De Laglesia (2).

A good defensive effort from the men's local team saw them beat Pirates A 85-63 in WEBBA Division 1.

Bath controlled the contest from start to finish and registered through Rovira (16), Marazopoulos (13), Garcia (10), Janicot (10), Analts (7), Hulme (6), Wilkins (6), Simoes (5), Jakutavicius (4), Jones (4) and Hart (2).

Missing a few inside players, Bath struggled at Swindon side Cavaliers A on Sunday but held on to win 73-65.

Janicot (27), Cieply (13), Jones (6), Allen (6), Riley (5), Bridge (4), Stringer (4), Analts (3), Marazopoulos (3) and Parker (2) were on the scoresheet.

Bath's women were involved in a challenging encounter against Bristol and were able to take some positives from a 52-28 reverse. They played well as a team but were left to rue a number of missed shots.

Their points came from Batson (11), Frank (6), Rebollar (3), Laursen (2), Loukaidou (2), Tse (2) and Mariutto (2).
