U-turn on grass verge cutting
Opposition councillors are celebrating what they have dubbed a U-turn on reductions in grass verge cutting.
Bath and North East Somerset Council cabinet member for transport Councillor Roger Symonds (Lib Dem, Combe Down) says he is aiming to reinstate funding which was taken out of the budget for such work in the current financial year.
Councillor Geoff Ward (Con, Bathavon North) said: "Of course the council faces difficult budget choices, but it makes no financial sense to make cuts in areas which will simply store up problems for future years and cost more to rectify in the long run. The poor state of many grass verges on roads and pavements have prompted a huge number of complaints."
In a written answer at a council meeting, Mr Symonds, said: "I would prefer that we reinstate a cutting frequency similar to that before the budget reduction made for this year and I have therefore asked officers to review the budget with a view to recommending alternative ways in which we can balance the budget."

“Oh, so now we know.....all that nonsense about wet weather never did ring true! The next question is where were these council employees put to work when they were stopped from mowing the public grass areas?? The councillors who made this ridiculous decision in the first place will find that more work on these areas will be needed so any 'savings' will be nil. What a way to run a council!!!!!!!”
