HOCKEY TeamBath Buccaneers' under-16 and under-13 boys' sides both had cause for celebration last weekend.

The former became the first under-16 side from the club to reach the national finals after booking their place in the last four with a 2-0 away victory over Surbiton.

They will face Rutland at Highfields, Nottingham, on Sunday, April 11, with Woking and Coventry contesting the other semi-final.

Buccs took a deserved interval lead at Surbiton when an aerial ball caught the hosts by surprise and Rob Patterson scored.

Mike Salmon was denied by a fine save after the break but Patterson's second goal of the game late on secured their ticket to the finals.

The under-13s were crowned Avon Hockey League champions for the fourth year in a row.

They started last Sunday's matches with a 2-1 defeat to Bristol & West, in which Calum Smith netted their only goal.

But a tough team talk in their second game against Chippenham brought an avalanche of goals and an 11-2 triumph.

Now on a roll, Buccs went on to beat North Somerset 7-1 to set up a meeting with Bristol & West in the final.

That ended 2-2 at the end of normal time but two fine saves in the shoot-out by keeper Ben Garrod helped Buccs win 4-2 on flicks.

Ashley Gooden was both joint top scorer in the finals and the player of the match.

The Savills Junior League under-11s season reached its climax on Sunday with matches at the University of Bath Sports Training Village.

With the Division 2 title already in the hands of City of Bath A and the runners-up spot taken by St Stephens A, it was left to Chippenham to improve their position and take third spot with two wins.

In Division 3, TeamBath Buccaneers under-10s took the title with an impressive 100 per cent record following three more wins on the day.

The Buccs under-11s 3rd XI, the Brigands, held firm to clinch the runners-up spot.
