SOMERSET LEAGUE First-half goals from Jason Curtis and man of the match Ashley Blake earned three welcome – and deserved – Division 2 East points for Tunley Athletic against Cutters Friday Reserves.

The hosts had just 11 players to call on – including veteran Steve Parfitt, who made his first appearance in two years – but bossed the opening period.

Curtis latched onto a back pass in the 30th minute and unleashed a shot which was too hot for the Cutters keeper to handle, then Blake doubled the lead just before half-time after being given time on the edge of the box to pick his spot.

The visitors upped their work rate in the second half but Tunley matched and restricted Cutters to an 82nd-minute consolation from Ian Power.

Tunley face a short journey this Saturday to Timsbury Athletic, who are bottom of the table.

A four-point gap remains at the top of the division after leaders Radstock Town Reserves won 1-0 at Hengrove Athletic Reserves, while Peasedown Athletic were emphatic 6-0 victors against Stockwood Green Reserves.

Leading scorer Chris Pile slammed in a 20-yard drive for his 14th of the season and Luke Litterick doubled the lead after latching onto Neil Hulford’s defence-splitting pass before lobbing the keeper.

Man of the match Dan Reynolds made it 3-0 from the penalty spot following a handball by Stuart Kemble, then Litterick nodded home at the far post from Scott Newton’s free-kick.

Chris Pile had a hand in Peasedown’s two second-half goals, picking out Charlie Walton with a pinpoint cross for a composed finish before seeing a 90th-minute shot parried for Reynolds to slot into the top corner.
