“I'm old enough to remember the winters in the sixties - and as kids we didn't clear people paths and the older people were just as grumpy as we've become.
I did wonder as I appeared to miss the reason for re-iterating the word pratt, thought it was a bit harsh for 4 snow tyres even if it wasn't the same person.
It is much better to get out and do something rather that sit inside looking out wondering why kids of today and the council don't do it for you.
Right I'm off to clear some snow as it clearly isn't going to thaw sometime soon.”

“Well someone else obviously didn't appreciate his previous comment to which I referred either as it has gone. And it is nothing to do with being "holier than thou" ..... it is to do with the total lack of community spirit prevalent these days as was just demonstrated by my neighbour. He has cleared his drive to get his van out and piled the snow in the middle of the pavement! Brilliant!! With a little more of a swing he could have got it either onto the grass verge or onto his front lawn just like I did - common sense really - and he is 20 years younger!”

“I'm not sure whether I prefer the "pratt" or the "holier than thou" At least the pratt has a sense of humour.”

“Still being a prat then? You strike me as the selfish type who sits indoors and watches TV while the elderly and infirm are left to struggle. For the last 2 generations the local kids have cleared the pavements, made driving tracks in the road and gone shopping for older people. The current generation of kids are too busy on their computers, pop out for a quick game of snowballs and think of nobody else. If they got together they could have a couple of tracks cleared up the street in about an hour, but the devil will be going to work on ice skates before that happens! We have several elderly people, two of 98, at the top end of the cul-de-sac who rely on visitors, family and carers throughout the day. Our street, like many others, will not be touched by the Council, doesn't get enough traffic bringing salt in off the main road to free it up but just enough to pack it down tight. We are on top of the hill and our 6 inches is 15 cm - 4 cm more than was reported on Exmoor on the news last night. In Keynsham when we had 5.5 inches they only had 3.5 and most of the decision makers that are in Keynsham don't realise how much worse it gets on all the streets at higher level. The only streets that get treated are the bus routes, leaving the rest of the population to struggle. My much-maligned ruler is now showing 5 inches, which means that it has compacted overnight and there is now an inch of ice below the snow, which makes clearing it and walking on it much more difficult. We know our rubbish won't go anywhere on Monday and we didn't get mail yesterday. And yes we have seen snow before - in 1963 we saw lots of it - but in those days people lived close enough to work and school so everyone go on with it instead of grinding to a halt!”

“12. 15 - ruler now at 6 inches and nothing falling. Only "traffic" up here has been a 4WD and a van who became stuck and slid all over the place but had a pair of those removable snow socks which he fitted to the front wheels. I have to say they were impressive - he got moving in a straight line, turned it and went on his way. Our cul-de-sac will be fun for a few days and the grit bin promised years ago by the council never did materialise so I guess we will be sliding around for a good while yet.”

“Who is this prat???
At 10 am I put a ruler in my patio table on Odd Down and it measured exactly 5 inches. In 25 minutes it has gone up to 5.5 inches and it is still chucking down.”
